Their official announcement follows:

Dr. Garth D. Pettit Honored for Excellence in Dentistry

Dr. Pettit was the first dentist to create a completely oral, oral hygiene instruction

CAMPBELLTOWN, SA, AUSTRALIA, December 22, 2015, Dr. Garth D. Pettit, Sole Director of 4 Your Smile 2 Shine Pty. Ltd. has been recognized for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in dentistry.

Dr. Pettit has 60 years of professional experience, with 20 years as the sole director of 4 Your Smile 2 Shine Pty. Ltd. Throughout his career, he has set himself apart through his skill in dentistry, oral hygiene, oral disease prevention, publishing eBooks and videos, and now seeks public speaking in radio, television, on cruise ships and corporate staff presentations. Each day, he works to provide educational materials globally in the importance of oral hygiene in children. He has an article in “Letters to the Editor” soon to be published in the British Dentist Journal. Dr. Pettit engages in public speaking and in oral health seminars. 4 Your Smile 2 Shine Pty. Ltd. is an oral health education company specializing in oral disease prevention and the promotion of excellence in oral hygiene.

In 1995, five years after retiring from dental practices in Australia and England, Dr. Pettit’s granddaughter was diagnosed with mild tooth decay in a deciduous tooth. He was horrified and decided to return to his profession with a mission to prevent oral diseases in children. He returned to dental practice in January 1997 to research for proposed books to accomplish his mission: prevent oral diseases in children. Dr. Pettit attributes his success to his 5 Ps: Pettit’s Personified Patience, Persistence and Perseverance, which were all aided by passion, determination, innovation and drive.

In 2001, Dr. Pettit became the first dentist to create a completely oral, oral hygiene instruction and named it “Treat Your Mouth.” He later renamed the instruction “Treat Your Whole Mouth” in 2007, but soon after changed the name to “Paint Your Mouth,” because children in classrooms absolutely loved the thought of painting their mouths.

He says, “It is the perfect oral hygiene instruction, because it removes all harmful plaque from all seven internal mouth surfaces and then subsequently places helpful plaque on them.”

“Paint Your Mouth” will keep mouths free from all common oral diseases and many associated common adult diseases such as heart attacks, strokes, high blood pressure, diabetes, Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia.

The most recent highlight of Dr. Pettit’s career, in September 2015, was the acceptance for publication of his article, the title withheld until publication, by the Editor in Chief of the British Dental Journal. He expects it to attract many comments worldwide and intends to record the article and the comments on his website: http://www.paintyourmouth.com/bdj-comments.

Dr. Pettit received a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Adelaide’s School of Dentistry, and a graduate diploma in management from Central Queensland University. His main goal for the future is to continue providing educational leadership and awareness through the writing of his books, creating his eBooks as videos and public speaking in the importance of oral hygiene among both adults and children.

In July 1996 the Australian author, Dr. Garth Pettit, received a phone call from his daughter who informed him that his 3 year old granddaughter had been diagnosed with mild tooth decay in an upper front baby tooth. They were living many miles apart, two full day trips by car. The doctor was angry with himself and with the lack of any decent oral health education available for children or parents.

Dr. Pettit then decided he would end his five years of retirement from private dental practices. He created a mission: Prevent Oral Diseases in Children. Then he set about seeking employment in the Government sector where he would be involved with children, their parents and their schools. In January 1997 he took up duties as District Dental Officer, East Arnhem Land, Northern Territory of Australia and was based in Nhulunbuy, a very beautiful coastal and bauxite mining town. The author thought it to be ideal for his research.

The Nhulunbuy Dental Clinic staff, which included three dentists, serviced several remote, Aboriginal Communities which were accessible only by aircraft. A fourth dentist responsible to him was based on Groote Eylandt. This dentist’s position was half Government and half private practice.

To concentrate more on his research the author, in early 1999, relocated to this position. It was here, in 1999, where he performed a Strength-Weakness-Opportunity-Threat analysis on the instruction Brush Your Teeth, found it to be out-of-date (1497!) and created a better oral hygine instruction Treat Your Mouth. Later changed that to Treat Your While Mouth and finally changed to Paint Your Mouth….because kids just loved the idea to paint your mouth.

The Author’s most recent five star reviewed titles added to his Amazon account are:
Mothers Teach Foetus All About A Smile. Teaching Oral Disease Prevention
GarGar The Dentist Toddlers Activity Books. Book a
GarGar The Dentist Toddlers Activity Books. Book b
Teaching Oral Disease Prevention. 1 of 12 etc. to 12 of 12
Teaching Oral Disease Prevention. 1 thru 12. TThis combines all previous 12 titles into one convenient title.
